Happy Birthday Dr. Seuss & An Award

What a fun week we had celebrating Dr. Seuss!!! Here is some of the fun stuff we did on Friday to celebrate his birthday!

We read Bartholomew and the Oobleck.

And, of course, we made our own oobleck!!!!

This was SO much fun!!! I used the cornstarch and water recipe. You can find it here. Let's just say my classroom carpets will never be the same again. And I kept asking myself, Why did I wear black pants today!?!? That cornstarch got everywhere. And I mean everywhere. One of the kids said now we have "memory stains" on our classroom floor. I said "What!?!?" He explained that a memory stain is a stain you can look at and remember how much fun you had that day. Very sweet. And yes, we do have about 50 memory stains on our carpet. :-)

We also did some writing that went with it (How to make Oobleck)...But that wasn't as important as the actual oobleck itself :).

We also got the chance to read with our new kindergarten buddies!!!

I always love doing things like this because I get to see my wild and crazy excited students in a new light. Especially the struggling readers- they always soar when we do activities like this, and it's always so nice to see my little troublemakers turkeys so involved and so excited about reading with their little buddy!

In other news, Chrissy at

awarded me the One Lovely Blog award! Thanks Chrissy!!!

So now, I am passing the award on to a few of my favorites!!! Check them out if you haven't already!!! :-)

  4. I made Oobleck only once and thought NEVER again! I laughed out loud at your "memory stains." We drank oobleck instead this year (lime green Hawaiian punch!)

  5. Aw, thanks Sandy! So sweet.
Love Oobleck. It's so much fun... but super messy. I like your little one's "memory stain" comment. Fabulous way to look at things!
