Vocabulary Videos

I am so excited to be contributing to Technology Tailgate!!! This is an amazing group of bloggers with some GREAT ideas I can’t wait to steal use next year!!! Hop on over and check it out!!!

I have a great vocabulary activity that can be done using iMovie (or any video making program!)… I’m an Apple girl ;-)

I had my second grade students creating these videos last year once they understood the iMovie basics, and it was especially helpful for my English Language Learner students! If you only have one device, you can create them as a front-loading type activity for a story or topic and have the kids watch them. Or you could have students create them at a center. They can also be created on a laptop or desktop!

First, students complete a “Vocabulary Video Planning Sheet.” You can give the kiddos specific words, or you can allow them to choose words that interest them from the story or the topic.

Then the kids get busy creating their videos. This can be done individually, or collaboratively!

In this case, I created one for one of our first stories of the year…

Check it out!

Click either of the pictures above to get the planning sheet and the directions.

And please, let me know what you think!

Questions??? Please, ask away!!!

J I’d love to hear from you!

  4. I'll only have one iPad this year, but I think if I have groups take turns creating our video for the next week, it would be SO cool! :) Thanks for the idea and the freebie!

  5. Great idea! Love how you incorporated iMovie. This is the one app I didn't use last year and now I know a great way I can use it this coming school year. How long did it take your students to create a video?
