Left Over Candy Hearts?!
Do you have a ton of left over conversation hearts from Valentine's Day!?
Not sure what to do with all of them!?
Here are a few ideas on ways you can use them in your classroom during math time!
All Things Valentine's Day {At School}
Can you believe it's almost Valentine's Day!? I've rounded up a few of my favorite Valentine's Day resources for the classroom! Enjoy!
Valentine Party Pack- A Common Core Aligned Celebration! Plus a FREEBIE!
We had so much fun at our Valentine's Day celebration last year!!! It went so smoothly with the help some amazing volunteers, and I am actually looking forward to celebrating Valentine's Day with my class this week!!!
Here are some pics from the six stations that are included in my Valentine Party Pack! (All of the activities are Common Core aligned, except the good old fashioned mail delivery station ;-)
Estimation Station
Measuring with Hearts
Make 100 card game
Graphing with Hearts
Exploring the Human Heart (this was a favorite station- so fun!!!)
We used the Exploring the Heart in 3D app on our iPads!
And last but not least...
Mail Delivery
The card/candy/treat/sugar passing-out was confined to one little (quiet & calm!!!!) area! It was beautiful! ;-)
I have kids spend about 15 minutes at each station and rotate on through. It takes up the whole afternoon! And with a parent volunteer at each station, I'm able to walk around and take pictures and help out everywhere. You could also do all of these activities with whole group, or small groups, or even at a fun early finisher station!
Here's a closer look at each station:
ANNNNDDDDD......
A freebie for you!
Just click the pic to download!
I'd love to hear some of your favorite Valentine's week activities that you do in your classroom! Leave a comment with your email and I'll pick five random comments this afternoon and they'll receive this pack for free!
I hope you have a wonderful Valentine's Day week and are surrounded by students and colleagues and people and things you love!
XOXO
Lots of Valentine's Day Pictures!

And when the kiddos were finished passing their goodies out, they used the computer to go to this website- it's FILLED with Valentine's Day fun!!! (Thanks to Shannon at Technology Rocks!!!)
If you're interested in any of these activities from my Valentine's Party Pack, you can click HERE to check them out on TPT! They're on sale for $1 in case you want to grab it and file it for next year! (Plus, all of the stations (except the Mail Delivery station) are Common Core aligned! :)

I know I was! :)
Ready for Valentine's Day??? {Freebie}
I am!!! And I'm so excited about the celebration I have planned for my kiddos!
This pack is similar to my Pumpkin Party and Holiday Party, and this station model has proven to run smoothly (at least for my class!) Plus, the kiddos are doing some learning while having tons of fun!!!
In my classroom, my kiddos spend an afternoon moving through each activity in small groups of 4-5. They spend 20-30 minutes at each station. There is an adult at each stop to help explain directions, keeps students on track, and answer any questions.
Check out the activities included in this pack:
Measurement with Candy Hearts
Estimation Station with Candy Hearts
Exploring the Human Heart
This also includes optional suggestions for fun apps to instal on a class iPad or device to explore the human heart! Too cool! There is also a suggestion for a fun activity if you have access to a stethoscope!
Make 20
and (depending on your students and their needs!)
Make 100
Plus, I HAD to include a "Mail Delivery" station where the kids pass out all of their Valentine's goodies. No Common Core standard here...just good old-fashioned Valentine's fun! ;-)
Every activity here is aligned with 2nd grade Common Core standards, yet could be easily adapted to fit other grade levels. All of the activities could also be done whole group, small group, and can even be placed at independent learning centers.
There's a list of materials needed for each station, along with directions for volunteers and students.
Also included is a parent volunteer request & donation form, a parent reminder form, recording sheets for students for each activity (in color and black & white), and signs to label each station.
And finally, a freebie for you:
Just click the picture to download this candy heart graphing activity! Just add conversation hearts! :)
What are your favorite Valentine's Day activities!?!?
I'd LOVE to hear about them!
Cute Valentine's Story
I know Valentine's Day is over (and many of us would like to pretend it never happened, i.e. cracked out suger-high kiddies all day long), but I just remembered this story and I had to share (and I was amazed I was able to find the pictures that go with the story too, because this happened almost six years ago!!!)
When I was completing my student teaching, I had the most AMAZING cooperating teacher, Miss T. She was the most loving and caring kindergarten teacher EVER, and even when I am in a pickle today , I still ask myself, what would Miss T. do??? Amazing!
Soooo..... on Valentine's Day one of her cutie-pie kindergarten boys brought in a gift for her and I (mostly for her, but since I happened to be there too it was for both of us...)
He was SO excited to give this box of chocolates to Miss T. Grinning ear to ear, biggest smile ever, so proud of this little box of chocolates because he wanted so badly to be her "Prince Charming" on Valentine's Day.
She put on the show and oooohhh-ed and aaaahhhhh-ed at her box of chocolates. (You know- "I LOVE it! This is exactly what I wanted!!! How did you know!?!?!?! THANK YOU SO MUCH!!! I just can't wait to eat it!!! Yuuummmmyyyyy!!!!) He was beaming. So proud.
Somehow at the end of the day, Miss T. noticed the box didn't have the plastic wrapper around it. Interesting... Sooooo... she opened it up. And here's what we found:
He had opened it up and taken a little bite out of each one of the chocolates. Probably on the way to school. He was probably hungry. Or curious. Or loved chocolate. Can you blame him... he was five!?! Nonetheless, he was still so proud to give it to her- not one bit embarrassed. He probably didn't even think anything of the little bites taken out of the chocolate.
We were dying laughing at the ridiculousness and cuteness of it. Some people get bonuses at their jobs, or kickbacks, or discounts. A half eaten box of chocolates and hugs from dirty little hands are what teachers get! :-)
Here's by box of gifts from all of my students this year:
Like Hadar said, if only we could turn it all into Target gift cards!!!! (At least my dog looks semi-interested in the goods...)
Hope you're having a great weekend!!!

Spread Some Love
Tomorrow is February and we all know what that means!!!... Love is in the air!!!
At my school, our staff does February Secret Pals.... kind of like Secret Santa but for Valentine's Day. It's just a fun way to keep each other motivated, and it's super fun to give and receive cute little items in your box each day!
For one week, we spread some love to our secret pals by placing five small items in their box, one for each day of the week. On Friday, you get to find out who your secret pal is and thank them! It definitely adds some fun to the week, and it's always exciting to sneak around and spoil your secret pal. :)
Here is the form we use to organize secret pals and give each other ideas of what to get one another.
I know we spend so much of our time with our students and put all of our hearts into the kiddos and our classrooms....I think it's so important to celebrate each other too! After all, we're in this together, right? :-)
Does your staff do anything fun for Valentine's Day!?!
